- Play with puppies. Do a quick search for the nearest pet store that sells puppies and stop in to visit the little pups for some play time. The store will most likely have an area to visit with the puppies. Not only is this fun for the kids, but it is also a great for the dogs who are usually stuck in small areas for long periods of time. Some stores will even let you take the dogs for a walk.
- Take a family bike ride. Hop on those bikes and take a ride through your neighborhood. This is a great way to get those little legs of theirs some exercise while promoting neighborhood appreciation. Just make sure everyone has on their helmets.
- Have a picnic. Why sit at home to eat that peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Pack up those lunches, grab a blanket and visit your local park.
- Check out a book or two. Visit your local library to check out what books they have on the shelf. Most libraries also have a story time which is a great way for them to meet other kids in the area.
- Pitch a tent. You don’t have to go far to have a fun camping experience. In fact, you can pitch a tent in your backyard. Once it gets dark, turn on the flash lights and tell scary ghost stories.
- Play dress up. Let your kids do a mini raid through your closet to pick out a “fancy” dress or fun tie. Then let then have them role play as mommy and daddy. This is a great way to see how they see you in their little heads.
- Go for a treasure hunt. Geocaching is a good way do a treasure hunt with your kids. Visit geocaching.com for some local hunts. The website also rates the difficulty level. I suggest starting with an easy one because some can be very difficult to find. They will have a blast trying to find the hidden treasure.
- Take a hike. Check out some of your local trails for a family hike. Bring the binoculars and have fun searching for animals and discovering nature. Make sure you don’t forget to pack some water and snacks while on the trail.
- Make a collage. Take those old magazines that have been laying around for months and let the kids cut out their favorite pictures and glue them to a collage. You can come up with a theme for them to stick with or have them design a collage that they feel represents them best. This is a great way for them to be creative and a great way to learn more about their interests.
- 10. Make a fort. Making a fort will never get old. Take all the blankets you can find in the house and see how big your fort can get. Once you complete your fort, grab a book and a flashlight and crawl into the farthest corner for story time.
